Running for candidacy

This process comes in five easy steps:

  1. Decide what position you would like to run for.
  2. Sign up on the Physoc board from 8th February.
  3. Attend the campaign briefing on Thursday 11th at 6pm. This is where you will be told what is allowed during campaign week, and will be the best time to ask any questions you may have
  4. Use campaign week to convince your collegues to vote for you. This is the week of the 15th February. Voting will take place on the 18th and 19th.
  5. Come to the Physoc Big Bang! This is when the results will be announced and, even if you don’t wish to enter a team you are encouraged to come along for the free refreshments afterwards.

Committee positions

President

President of Physoc chairs the society committee and is in charge of coordinating all the committee members’ efforts. This involves planning the society calendar, working closely with the staff and helping out with whatever it is required!

They are also expected to attend School Board and Faulty of Enginneering, Science and Maths (FESM) meetings to represent the members of the society. Additionally, they are in charge of liaising with the Student’s Union.

Vice President/Treasurer

The VP deputies the President whenever necessary. As treasurer they are expected to manage the Physoc accounts.

Secretary

Responsible for calling Physoc committee meetings, compiling the agenda and writing up the minutes. Coordinates with webmaster to keep website up to date.

Events Reps (2)

The Physoc events reps are in charge of making sure that all members have fun socially! Beware this can be hazardous at times, and always messy.

Media and Communications

In charge of maintaining the Physoc board and producing events posters.They also write the weekly Physoc Newsletter on behalf of the committee!

Webmaster

Responsible for the updating of the website; including the calendar, events pictures, newsletter and further development of the physoc CMS. Knowedge of HTML/CSS will be needed with Rails experience or similar (like PHP/Perl) being advantageous.

Outreach officer

Physoc Outreach officer chairs their subcommittee, heading up our newly established outreach programme. This involves the creation of new demonstrations, organisation of events in schools and coordination with STEMnet.

Sports Rep

Organises the entry of Physoc intramural teams and sorts the five a side tournament each year. In charge of upkeep of Physoc team kits.

Academic Officer

The academic officer is responsible for organising speakers for the careers lectures Physoc hosts and will this year be coordinating our society’s efforts with those of other FESM societies.

NEXUS Rep

The Institute of Physics has an active student branch, known as Nexus. the Physoc Nexus Rep is involved in organising IoP talks and visits to other societies in our region.

First Year Rep

The coordination of Fresher events involves a number of aspects including the organisation of their welcome pack, the induction exercises and the FESM fresher event. After Fresher’s week the first year rep will be in charge of ordering hoodies for the year. This position should be filled by a current first year.

Ball Rep

Physoc hosts a Christmas and a Summer ball each year and the ball rep is responsible for their organisation.
